Buying a car is an expensive thing. But, does it have to be? There are a number of things that you can do to get the car that you want for much less. Simple and a bit more complex, these tips will help you to save money in the long run. Buying a car can be affordable.

Here are five tips for saving money on your next car purchase.

1.Get your financing in order before you leave to look at cars. While many car dealerships are offering financing for vehicles, this can be one of the more costly options. Make sure you talk to online financing companies, your local bank and your credit union. You probably will save a good amount of money here.

2.Do the down payment. Even a bit of a down payment can help you to save considerably down the road. You can save a good deal of money if you invest wisely. But, adding a bit of a down payment to the purchase will help to lower the amount of principal that you actually owe on that vehicle purchase.

3.If your credit is bad, get a co signer. Having someone else that can help you to get your car is a great way to secure a vehicle for a more affordable price. This helps to lower the amount of risk that you present to the car financer. The lower the amount of risk you prove to be, the better your chances of paying less for that car.

4.Trade-ins are good too. If you have a car that you plan to trade in, you may be able to get a good price for it. To improve the amount you get, make sure that the car is as clean as possible, is running well and has been taken care of. In addition to this, make sure that you know the value of it by looking it up on the web. Know what its worth so you do not get taken. The value of the trade in will lower the amount you have to have financed on your vehicle.

5.Shop around and haggle. There is no shame in saving money. Dealers are selling cars to make a commission. How much will they make off of you? Do your homework out the type of car you are looking for and know its worth. Look at several dealerships to find the right car at the right price. Don’t forget to haggle with the dealership salesmen. But, whatever you do, do not be insulting to them. That’s the wrong way to get your price down.

Take these five ways to save on the next time you buy a car and you will walk way with the benefits that you deserve. You can save a good amount of financing and interest charges this way.

Purchasing new car is hard enough without having to deal with the sales pressure from a car salesman. It’s no big secret that almost every car dealer can be talked down on the initial price thay want for a car.

So if you decide to buy new car, we’ll help you determine what kind of cars is right for you and how best to negotiate a car purchase. Before you head out to the car showrooms with your checkbook in hand, evaluate your reasons for buying a new car. Find out the base price of each car you are interested in. The more you know about the actual cost of, the less you will have pay for it.

Before entering the dealership
Before you step foot on a dealership lot, there are several things you need to think about, including what type of vehicle you can afford, what type of car is right for you, whether you should lease or buy, and what your credit history consists of.
Once you decide on type of car you need it is time to do your research to narrow down the choices. A number resources on this site can provide you comparison information rating the vehicles within specific categories. Compare such areas as safety, reliability, fuel economy, warranties, operating costs, theft rates, general features, and options when making you decision.

Getting ready to buy new car
Do your homework first and make much wiser decision before you buy new car. To determine ahead how much negotiating room you have on basic cars and extra options, draw up awork sheet for each type of new car you considering. Using updated price lists available from above sites, write down the dealer’s cost and list price, for the particular make, model and trim line.
For each car, list the options you want, describing them with the invoice number. Also before you decided to buy new car, write down the dealer’s cost and the list price. Look up the destination charges for that car, and include this in both the dealer’s cost and the list price, since there is no murkup. The destination charge is the cost the dealer pays to get the new car to the dealership.
Now compare the dealer’s cost and the list price for that car. The difference is your negotiating room. Do the same thing with each of the options. You may be able to negotiate on individual options before you buy new car.

Buying A Second Hand Car? 19 Tips To Avoid Getting Your Fingers Burnt.

Do your homework. Read up about the model of car you’re thinking about. Will it perform as you will want? Be aware of any known mechanical problems with that particular model and remember to check them out when you take it for a test drive (see tip 15).

Look up the current second hand values for the car. Try starting at www.what car .com. Also get some of the second hand car magazines and your local paper. Check out the prices being asked for similar cars.

Car Insurance is always a major expense. How much will that car cost you to insure? It’s easy to find out on the Internet get a few quotes. It’ll just take you ten minutes.

Also check out the car’s other running costs. We’re talking about fuel consumption, servicing and repair bills. Again www.what car .com can help. Ensure you can afford to run the car!

When you see the car insist on seeing its registration documents and, if the car is more than 3 years old, its MOT certificate. The registration documents will also show the cars’ VIN number. Carefully check that the documents tally.

Always ensure that the person selling the car does actually own it.

And always see the car at the seller’s own home or business premises. Then ensure that the address on the Registration Document is at the same as the address – if not ask why. You should be suspicious.

Examine the Road Tax disc. Is it still valid? Does the vehicle registration number on the disc match the Registration Document and the number on its number plate?

Ask to view the cars’ Servicing Record. Usually, this will also show the cars’ VIN number and details of the first owner. If the Service record is not available, has the owner kept any of the service or repair bills? Ask to see them.

Now look under the bonnet and look for the VIN Number (it could also be on a plate on the inside edge of one of the front doors). Compare the VIN number with the number on the Registration Document and check that the number stamped on the car has not been interfered with. This will help to ensure that the car hasn’t had its identity changed.

It’s best to take a friend with you who knows’ about cars not only to look at the car but also to be a witness for what is said and anything that is agreed.

Don’t pay for a car on your first visit and try not to be pushed into putting down a deposit. You need to carry out some checks before you part with any money (see 17 below).

Ask the owner whether the car is subject to any outstanding finance. Take notes of what he/she says. Then, when you get home, get on the Internet and check out the information provided with RAC Vehicle Status Check. Go to the RAC’ web site. Click on Car Buying and then Vehicle Status Checks. The Status Check will cost you 24.99 but it will confirm whether the car has outstanding finance. Best to be safe without this Check you could find out that a finance company actually has a prior title to the car.

Carefully examine the car in good daylight. Look carefully for signs of repairs and accident damage. If you have followed our advice and obtained a Vehicle Status Check, that Check will also notify you if the car has previously been written off.

Try to ensure that the car hasn’t been clocked. (Clocked means that the mileometer has been wound back to show a lower mileage.) The average annual mileage is around 12,000. Be wary if the wear and tear on the car looks greater than you would expect from the mileage. The wear on the driver’s pedals is usually a give away. Then ask when the tyres were last replaced. Does the wear on the tyres look about right?

Insist on test-driving the car for at least 10/15 miles. You need to get the car fully warmed up and drive it in varying conditions. Incidentally, don’t forget to ensure you are insured to drive it! Don’t assume that your own insurance policy will cover you for driving someone else’s car. Check your policy before you leave home. If the seller claims that his insurance covers you, ask to see his policy a bit of a pain but better safe than sorry!

Has the car ticked all the boxes so far? Then spend some more money get it professionally inspected.

Never pay any money until you have seen the results of the RAC Vehicle Status Check. And even then, avoid paying any money until the car is handed over to you complete with its Documents and tax disc. Always get a written receipt for any money you pay and ensure that it includes the sellers name and address.

Last of all, make sure you’re insured from the moment you drive the car away. The Police can now impound, and ultimately scrap, your car if you’re driving it without insurance or road tax! If the car has not got Road Tax disc, call in at the Post Office on the way home and get one. You’ll need to show them a valid insurance cover note for the car and the cars up to date MOT Certificate.

If you’ve followed all these steps you’ll have done just about everything possible to ensure the car is legally yours at the right price, and you haven’t bought a scrapper!

Before getting your own car, it pays to do some homework. Think about what you need, what the car will be used for, and your budget. Look in books and online and think about repair costs, safety tests, mileage etc.

All this research can save you some serious money and help you avoid being ripped off.

Once youve chosen the car you want, you have to decide how you are going to pay for it. You can pay the whole amount upfront or you can finance the purchase over time. If you do use financing, you should be aware that this increases the total cost of the car as you must pay for the car plus the credit.

Once you have decided on how much you can put down, you can look at the annual percentage rate (APR) of the loan and the length of the loan and see how much your monthly payments will be.

Generally speaking, the shorter the term of the loan, the higher the APR. If you are in your teens, cosigning with your parents will help you to get a better rate. You may also want to think about paying in cash for a less expensive car.

Dealer or Private Sale?

This is an important decision to make. If you buy from a dealer you will generally pay more. But you will benefit from knowing that if there is a problem you can return to the dealer to complain. Many dealers offer warranties and guarantee the quality of the car.

On the other hand, buying from an individual will offer less security as the car will generally be sold as is, which means you must bare the cost of any problems that later arise. You also cannot go back and complain to an individual if something they told you turns out to be untrue. That said, buying from an individual can often offer very good value.

First of all, they will not add a mark up on the price, which is what a dealer would do if he had bought it first. Also, if you bring along your own mechanic, or someone who knows about cars, you can have it checked out to make sure everything looks ok.

Before you buy the car, make sure you examine it with an inspection checklist. Get a good test drive over varied road conditions and be sure to get the cars maintenance record. It is also worth having the car inspected by a mechanic if you have serious concerns about it.

Finally, before you buy, make sure you are ready to meet all the associated costs of having the car. These include insurance, fuel, maintenance and repairs.

When it comes to negotiating your best deal on the car youve got your eye on, first and foremost you have to do your research and homework on all the various parts of putting a car deal together.

At a high level, this is all the pricing, rebate, and dealer incentive numbers you can find on your perspective car. Youve lined up your financing so you know what you qualify for, how much you qualify for, how long you can finance, and what your monthly payments will be based on a few different financing scenarios. And (if applicable) you know the actual cash value, and retail value of your trade-in.

If you dont have a firm grasp on the aforementioned, proceed no further (dont show up at a dealership) until you do.

But if you have, and you feel confident, lets talk a bit further about negotiating.

Rule number one when it comes to negotiating and car deals.

Never negotiate from the MSRP down Youll never get to the price you want.

Always negotiate from invoice price or dealer cost up.

Since youve done your homework, go to the dealership with your opening offer in mind. Be confident in yourself and the fact that although you certainly arent going to offer sticker price, your number will be fair and not ridiculous. If you offer up something totally ridiculous for the selling price from the dealer, youve wasted your time and havent really opened the negotiating process because your offer wont even be viewed as serious. Keep your offer within the win-win window.

When you know your numbers and you come across as confident (because you are) the sales people and the others at the dealership will be aware of this and will spend less time trying to work you.

Give yourself room to eventually feel good. By this I mean, dont table your first offer with the price you have in mind that you are willing to pay. Think about it for a moment; by definition there is going to be some negotiating going on here, so you certainly dont want to begin at the price you want to be and simply hold firm. This may sound easy but this is truly a point where many miss the mark. Many people feel uncomfortable about starting below their target price, but it is an absolute must when it comes to successfully coming close to or hitting your pricing goal.

If the salesperson or the dealership is the first to offer up a number to get things going, rather than you countering with an actual dollar amount simply let the salesperson know that his number simple not within your budget and they need to come back with a better offer. By doing this, your goal is to get an even better opening price without tipping your hand.

Remember, a dealership is always going to take a couple shots at maximizing the deal for their side first.

Keep in mind that negotiating is just that negotiating. It isnt a one-way street where you get everything you want and the dealership simply acquiesces. There is plenty of give and take and it may not (actually hardly ever is) limited to just the price of the car. In other words, if you feel like you have to come up a bit off your offer or counter offer, see if you can get some return value for your effort such as some complimentary maintenance, even floor mats or something.

When you do this it keeps the negotiation alive and lets the dealer know that you are serious about putting together that win-win deal that works for both parties.

Stay open minded during the process and treat the entire car buying process as a negotiation package. There are numerous avenues that you can probe for negotiation during the car buying process. Its not just the price. However, dont agree on the price and then start trying to negotiate other items. Once youve said yes to the price, you lose your leverage. Remember its the entire package.

Finally, always keep in mind that without you there is no deal for the dealer. If you reach an impasse if you have to walk. Dont rationalize giving in against your better judgment because you really want the car, or that youve spent the better part of your day at the dealership. Remember the dealer and the salesperson have their time invested as well and dont want the deal to fall through either. Be patient, keep the negotiation communication lines open and chances are youll be rewarded with a new car at a price you feel good about paying.

O.K. youre patting yourself on the back for all of the homework youve done on your perspective car that you are going to buy so youre fired up and ready to go right?

Its great that youve done much homework on the car that youve got your eye on good job. But, consider this have you given any thought at all as to what your negotiating game plan is going to be? If you really want to maximize your car deal, it only makes sense to give this area some additional consideration.

Negotiating is skill that can be learned and gets better with practice. Throughout everyones life first as children then as parents negotiation occurs rather regularly. Now that youre looking at stepping onto a car dealership, you shouldnt suddenly feel as though youve never been involved in negotiations Ill bet that you have.

First and foremost, plan to succeed. Simple thought I know, but it is part of the preparation. If you go into the process thinking that you would really like to get the selling price down to a certain figure, but at the same time youre telling yourself that this probably wont happen then guess what it wont. You wont have the confidence, and the sales person or sales manager will get work on your shaky expectations and get you off your target price.

Be mindful of the other hand though. If you go into the car selling price negotiating process like the proverbial bull in a china shop youll probably trip the sales persons and the sales managers hot button and they will push back just as vigorously creating a negotiating chasm.

The key as a polished negotiator is to stay calm and pleasant and present win-win scenarios.

Secondly Be prepared. Dont go into any type of transaction such as buying a car unprepared. Dont just know about the car and what you want your car to come with know what each of these options cost dont guess or assume There is profit to be negotiated upon across the board at any given dealership. Knowledge is confidence, and sales people will pick up on the fact that you know of which you talk and this will significantly cut down on the sales b.s.

Next Leave yourself wiggle room inside your cocoon of happiness target. In other words never start with the price you want to pay. Remember, by definition here we are negotiating with another person if you start with the price you want to pay; youll have no choice but to negotiate your way up and out of it. So, if youre will to spend say $15,000 then start at $14,000 and work to create a win-win somewhere in between. And, oh by the way no one in the dealership other than you has or will have NO IDEA of what youre willing to pay.

Heres a bonus tip if the sales person kicks off the negotiations with the first offer, dont counter with a number thats right no counter number instead counter back with a pleasant Im afraid thats somewhat beyond my budget make them come back with another offer to get you in the game. Now you just gotten a newer offer and you havent even jumped in yet. The first offer from the dealer is usually their home run swing they dont really expect you to serve yourself up at this point (although some do and hence the home run in profit).

Keep in that this is not a one way street. Youll have to participate and make some concessions in order for your deal to be a winner. For instance, if you cant get to the selling price you want then get more for your trade, get an extended warranty at dealer cost, get some no cost service or oil changes, floor mats, anything that keeps the deal moving forward and the negotiations open dont get hung up on beating you opponent over just one aspect of the deal.

This is where many people get frustrated and either walk away after getting so close or just give in as a result of the frustration. Negotiating a car deal is a package not just a selling price. Sure the selling price is the focal point, but you have to give the appearance that you are offering some concession as well. In fact, as your target price get within range, dont just agree on the price and then begin the delivery process. If you do you will be in a much weaker position to negotiate any extras you may want such as that extended warranty you see make sure all potential aspects of the deal are in place before you shake hands on the price.

Today the cost of auto insurance in the state of Colorado is among the highest in the nation and many Colorado drivers are finding it harder and harder to make those monthly car insurance premiums.

If youre like most car insurance buyers in Colorado you cant afford to pay even a penny more for your insurance needs than is absolutely necessary and driving without insurance is not an option not unless you want to risk losing your vehicle and your drivers license for a long, long time.

Its possible that one of the auto insurance reforms currently in the Colorado legislature will eventually have a positive impact on auto insurance premiums in the state, but in the meantime here are a few practical suggestions for ways to reduce your cost of auto insurance or to a least keep it at its current level.

First, do your own homework.

Start by checking with your other insurance providers. Often your homeowners insurance may offer a nice discount if you purchase your car insurance through them as well.

Secondly, when it comes time to renew your auto insurance policy carefully review it rather than just blindly paying it. Talk to your agent. Ask questions.

Start by discussing your deductible. The larger your deductible the lower your monthly premium. Obviously this represents a trade-off, but finding the right balance can save you substantially on your premiums.

If you own more than one car your insurance company should offer what they call a multi-policy discount. If youre entitled to such a discount, make sure youre getting it.

Your age or the ages of others on your policy can affect your monthly premiums. Generally speaking, very young and very old drivers pay higher premiums than other drivers.

While you cant do much about the age of the drivers on your policy, there are things that both young and older drivers can do to help keep costs reasonable. Young people who have had drivers education and who get good grades often get lower premiums as do older drivers who take refresher courses in drivers training.

Having auto insurance is a responsibility for every Colorado driver but finding ways to keep insurance costs down is every Colorado drivers right.

Is it time for a new car? Depending on where youre located, it may be possible for you to save a substantial amount of time and money by researching and buying your new car online. Buying cars online is becoming just as normal as buying household items online. The internet is truly expanding to make it easier and cheaper for dealers to sell and buyers to buy.

Dealers love the concept; they get more visitors than the average walk in neighborhood dealership and dont necessarily have 8 car sales people sitting around reading the paper. Their overhead drops significantly while the sales and profits soar through the roof. Consumers are starting to get more comfortable with it because a high percentage of car shoppers hate the car dealership experience. But online they can get the answers many of us are afraid to ask when were sitting in front of a pushy car salesman.

In some countries such as the United Kingdom, an increasing number of people are choosing to cut out shady dealerships and buy their new auto on the internet. Now you have the luxury to shop online and take your time understanding what vehicle and what price you want. As long as you choose a reputable source, its possible to save a substantial chunk of money by purchasing your new car online.

Remember, when you buy online you cannot test out the car youre interested in..so only choose to buy online once youve driven the car (try it out at a dealership first). Even when buying online you should still do your homework and know the car you’re getting and the price it’s worth. Learn about the car you like before a dealer decides what they want you to buy, which is the car that makes them more commission, keep the ball in your court.

Use price guides such as Edmunds or Kelley Blue Book to find out the true value of the car youre buying. This will make sure youre not paying more then normal prices for your new or used car. A little homework will give you some confidence and most probably save you some cash.

Many online sites for car purchases work by local dealers offering you free price quotes (these can often be negotiated downwards). These sites are growing larger by the month and are being considered more and more by consumers in North America. Popular sites like Auto Trader which we took as a manual search from their catalogues at the store are now really building their online presence. Other sites like CarsDirect.com, CarMax.com and CarPrice.com are also starting to see sales rise.

Some sites will even offer a lowest price guarantee – so if you do find the car for less, theyll match the price. Additionally, some online car buying sites will even drive the car directly to your home. If you’re in the market for a new car and really don’t like the whole dealership experience, this just might be what you’re looking for.

Serious ease and convenience not to mention you can save thousands of dollars this way. But best of all, no hard sell.

Research studies indicate that a car is broken into or stolen every 19 seconds in the United States. In such a scenario, you need to ensure that you have found the cheapest auto insurance quote. However, the trick is to amalgamate the duality of robust coverage and affordability. Thus, finding the cheapest auto insurance quote is not merely a hunt for the lowest premium.

Do your Homework right! Start with doing your homework right. Spend time and understand the insurance imperatives as laid down by the state law. Evaluate the minimum coverage requirements in-force.

Compare Apples to Apples! Dont compare just purely on the basis of rates. The key to finding the Cheapest Auto Insurance Quote is to compare all the pertinent elements that go into providing comprehensive coverage at any given price. In the United States, getting insurance quotes from leading insurers and comparison-shopping is very easy. Be ruthless when you compare across quotes and choose the one with the optimal coverage at the most affordable cost. Also, when comparing across plans, compare apples to apples. This essentially means that you price-evaluate plans with the same coverage, features and benefits.

Online Quote Comparison! There are various websites that offer online quote comparison service. These websites offer access to instant online auto insurance quotes, let you compare coverage, view, modify coverage tiers. However, keep away from websites that also sell auto insurance online, as their quotes could be biased and misleading.

Dont get fooled by lower deductibles! A lower deductible does not mean that you have got yourself a dream bargain. Think long term; avoid having a short term vision. A low deductible means that you would end up paying a higher premium. Be smart and opt for a plan with a higher deductible. What matters is the ultimate cost of the coverage, considering all eventualities.

Do keep in mind that auto insurance is not a cost but a great way to protect yourself, and family, with the automobile. So, keep the human element in mind and act prudently. Tread with care!
